Hundreds of West Ferris Trojans ready to parade

A fundraising tradition continues Tuesday at West Ferris Secondary School.

The 28th Trojan Parade for Cancer will see hundreds of students and staff walk from the school to the Kiwanis Bandshell at the waterfront.

Teacher Mark Robertson says it’s always a great event because of a combination of things including tradition, the waterfront celebration and it’s for a worthwhile cause.

“So many of the students and staff have a personal story related to somebody, a family member, a loved one who has battled cancer and benefited from the treatment facilities that are here locally,” he says.

All funds raised stay local and this year are going towards the purchase of two Digital Mammography machines at the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC).

Officials say over $350,000 has been raised over the years.

The parade returned last year after a two-year absence because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trojans have been raising pledges in their neighbourhoods, while donations can also be made online at the NBRHC Foundation’s website.
