Local air quality expected to reach high-risk levels this week

Smoke from forest fires in Quebec and across Ontario continue to affect the air quality in our area.

That from North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit officials, who are reminding people to take precautions as our area is expected to reach a high-risk level this week.

The health unit is offering tips on how to protect yourself from the smoke covering our region, they include limiting outdoor activities, wearing a respirator, and keeping your car and home windows shut. A full list of tips, including the current air quality and a list of symptoms is available on the Health Unit’s website.
According to the health unit, anyone can be affected by smoke haze, adding even short-term exposure can lead to difficulty breathing, headaches, respiratory or eye irritation, chest pains and more.
 
They add anyone experiencing severe symptoms should immediately call 9-1-1.
