Construction to start soon on Canadore’s domed sports complex

Expect to see construction getting underway very soon at Canadore College’s new domed sports complex.

Officials announced the $8.5 million project at the Commerce Court Campus, where the dome will be located, about a year ago with an official ground-breaking ceremony.

The 85,000-square-foot facility will support a variety of sports, dry-land training and conditioning all year long.

George Burton, Canadore President and CEO, says environmental work is wrapping up.

“We took some time to do an Environment Assessment because we’re environmentally conscious. We want to make sure we weren’t interfering with turtle migrations and that process is almost complete,” he says.

Burton adds construction will then be ramping up.

“The site should be under serious construction probably in about a week to ten days,” he says. “You’ll see some fencing going up very shortly and you’ll see some of the parking lot being changed as early as next week.”

College officials previously said the facility has been ten years in the making and was designed in consultation with community user groups.
