Two main pedestrian arteries downtown are going to be getting a makeover.
Downtown North Bay and Waterfront is requesting expressions of interest (REOI) for the installation of public art, lighting and wayfinding features in both the Main East and West alleyways.
One connects Main Street to the Capitol Centre parking lot while the other on Main West provides access to the McIntyre Street parking garage.
“The inspiration behind this project is to improve the quality of life for those residing and traveling to North Bay and to strengthen the investments and efforts of our small businesses and developers,” states the REOI. “Our mission is to create a safe and welcoming neighbourhood by activating and enhancing our public spaces that historically have higher foot traffic.”
The public art feature could include a mural or a design that encourages public social media interaction.
Lighting features could include market lights, lit wayfinding, lit gateways to enhance the entrances and more.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 5 pm on Monday, June 19.
According to the REOI, design of the Main West alleyway will take place this summer with installation in the fall.
The Main East alleyway will be designed in the winter and installed next spring.
