Local stakeholders planning how to celebrate RCAF centennial

22 Wing Canadian Forces Base North Bay is getting ready to mark 100 years of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The centennial is coming up in 2024.

Several community groups and military officials recently got together for an initial stakeholder meeting.

They include representatives from the city, 422 (Nipissing) Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Clean Green Beautiful North Bay, Military Family Resource Centre, the honourary colonels, the North Bay Museum and others.

“We are very fortunate at 22 Wing, to be hosted by the community of North Bay since before the base was built in 1951,” says Colonel Richard Jolette, 22 Wing and Canadian Air Defence Sector Commander. “Each stakeholder has demonstrated a keen interest in what we do at 22 Wing and their passion for the long-standing history of our base in North Bay. As we move forward to organize RCAF Centennial events in 2024, we will focus on three key areas; (1) heritage of the RCAF; (2) recognize its tremendous people today; and (3) generate excitement for its bright future.”

Officials say the stakeholder group plans on meeting regularly to plan on how best to celebrate the RCAF Centennial and show Air Force pride in North Bay.
