The countdown is on to Canada Day with plenty of activities planned in North Bay, including fireworks.
While a total fire ban remains in place around the area, the city says after careful review and consideration North Bay Fire and Emergency Services has determined at this time that the professional fireworks display set for Canada Day will be allowed to go ahead, conditional on weather.
“The fire department undertook a thorough risk assessment and has noted that the fireworks will be set off over Lake Nipissing and that precautionary measures include having crews on hand during the display,” states a release.
The city is hosting a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment for all ages on July 1 at the waterfront.
The opening ceremonies and singing of O’Canada takes place at the Kiwanis Bandshell at noon with the winners of the Canada Day Poster Challenge being announced.
Live music is on stage from 12:30 pm to 10 pm, with food vendors, interactive reptile and magic shows, face painting, a demonstration from FIRST Team 1305 and more.
There’s also Heritage Carousel and mini-train rides and the North Bay Museum will be offering free entry into Science North’s Indigenous Ingenuity exhibit from 8:30 am until 3 pm that day.
The Chief Commanda II fireworks cruise is scheduled to depart at 8:30 pm on July 1.
Tickets can be purchased at the Chief Commanda II ticket office on King’s Landing Wharf, or by calling 705-494-8167.
