Environment Canada says the smoky conditions aren’t expected to improve for some areas until Tuesday night or Wednesday.
A special air quality statement for the area says smoke plumes from forest fires in Quebec and northeastern Ontario will continue to affect the area, resulting in deteriorated air quality.
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says our region’s air quality is in the high-risk and very high-risk categories, according to the Air Quality Health Index.
Officials say everyone is at risk from wildfire smoke, especially small children, pregnant people, seniors, people with lung, heart or chronic health conditions and people involved in outdoor work or strenuous exercise.
Among other things, safety tips from public health include monitoring your symptoms, postponing outdoor physical activities, wearing a mask outdoors and checking in on other people.
