You can finally toast your first marshmallow or hot dog of the summer.
Effective at 4:00 pm today (Tues., July 11), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s province-wide Restricted Fire Zone will be lifted.
But Forest Fire Information Officer Evan Lizotte says we still can’t let our guard down. We need to remain vigilant and safe with open flames to ensure we‘re not responsible for human-caused forest fires.
City officials say the area’s fire ban will be lifted, too.
They’re reminding residents that open air burning in the City of North Bay is only permitted with a valid permit and ask that permit holders observe the following requirements when having an outdoor fire:
- Burn only between 6pm and midnight
- Only burn clean dry wood or charcoal
- Always have a means of extinguishment available and ready for use
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Never burn when winds are in excess of 15km/hr
- Always make certain that your fire is fully extinguished
