A bridge in Powassan has been dedicated to honour fallen Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Constable Patrick Clayton Armstrong.
He lost his life in the line of duty in September 1963.
The OPP Association Honour Roll says Armstrong was driving during regular patrol when a bull moose suddenly appeared in the path of the cruiser.
“Although Clayton swerved to avoid the animal, the ensuing collision resulted in the cruiser’s roof being crushed on the driver’s side,” states the honour roll.
Armstrong died while his partner received only minor injuries.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique took part in the bridge dedication ceremony Tuesday.
