Madrid to Toronto via North Bay

You may have noticed a larger-than-usual airplane flying over and landing in North Bay on Sunday.

This after an international flight made a stop at Jack Garland Airport.

Bryan Avery, Airport Manager, says he’s told the Air Canada Airbus A330-300 from Madrid was diverted here due to weather and traffic flow in Toronto.

He says it was a quick visit and after refueling the aircraft departed for Toronto.

Avery adds that as a result of the airport’s 10,000-foot runway, landing systems and apron space, they’re the diversionary airport for a number of airlines.

He says most of the time they see diversions after they’ve held in circuit in Toronto, however this time the crew decided to land here first.

Avery says the staff at World Fuels, Executive Aviation, and Air Canada locally quickly assisted the crew allowing for it to be a quick stop.
