North Bay Pride to march for equality and inclusion

North Bay Pride is changing its parade plans.

Instead of hosting a traditional Pride parade, the organization is holding a united march for equality and inclusion.

Officials say the move is being made in response to an alarming rise in hate both in person and online, to send a message against the denial of someone’s identity and the hate that accompanies it.

“The denial of someone’s identity is not a mere difference of opinion. It is rooted in hate towards them, no matter how some may try to spin it,” says Jason Maclennan, Communications Director for North Bay Pride. “We cannot let our society regress, and we must stand together against all forms of hate and discrimination.”

He says they’re calling on all levels of government to do more to combat hate.

“We urge community supporters to stand with us against hate and join us in filling the streets of North Bay with love and acceptance for everyone, regardless of their color, religion, or sexual orientation,” Maclennan says.

North Bay Pride activities are taking place Sept. 13-16.
