There won’t be a change in location for the proposed community and recreation centre project.
Councillor Lana Mitchell, chair of Infrastructure and Operations, says the ad hoc committee agreed that the site should remain the same.
“All of us have had access to the quite inclusive set of material that’s been developed over the years on the different site exploration. It was agreed upon that we would stay with Omischl,” she says. “That’s one thing that we will be putting forward as a solid recommendation to council.”
Mitchell says there’s still work to do on what the project will include noting they need a quality functional building that respects the needs in the community and the capacity to pay for it.
“We’re probably going to have some discussion moving forward on that still,” she says. “We haven’t really settled on it 100 per cent but I think it will be significantly below the $72 million [lowest bid].”
Mitchell says one approach could be to build part of the project then add components in the future.
The committee, which has to report back to council by Sept. 19, has another meeting scheduled next Thursday morning.
