Remembering the Battle of Britain

The 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain is being commemorated on Sunday in North Bay.

A 30-person flight including members of 22 Wing/CFB North Bay, veterans and cadets are marking the occasion at the cenotaph on First Avenue West. A wreath-laying ceremony is also taking place.

Military officials say during the Battle of Britain, Canadian air and ground crews, teamed up with almost 3,000 Allies from over a dozen countries to fight a war that definitively drew the line in the air to halt deadly Nazi advances.

1,542 Allies lost their lives in the Battle of Britain including 23 Canadian pilots.

Sunday’s ceremony takes place at 1 pm.
