The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for Chippewa Creek and other urban creeks in North Bay.
This after heavy thunderstorms and rainfall moved through the region Sunday.
“The water level in Chippewa Creek has already risen more than 100 cm,” said David Ellingwood, NBMCA Flood Duty Officer on Sunday night. “Further increases are possible with additional thunderstorms in the forecast. Water levels in urban creeks respond quickly to heavy downpours.”
Officials encourage the public to keep children and pets away from watercourses and shorelines, monitor the conditions as they develop and take proper precautions during times of high flows.
They also say anyone that has a flood emergency should contact their municipality while those in unincorporated townships should contact the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry – North Bay District.
Conservation Authority staff will continue to monitor the weather and watershed conditions.
The warning is in effect until Monday, September 18, 2023, at 4 pm.
