Over 60 local high school golfers hit the links Tuesday

St Joseph-Scollard Hall won the boy’s title at the NDA golf tournament on Tuesday while Mattawa’s FJ McElligott won the girl’s event.

A couple of Bears were tops individually, with Drake Robitaille carding a 73 and Alivia Purcell scoring 89.

Over 60 high school golfers competed in the tournament at Osprey Links.

A busy week in high school sports continues Wednesday with the Barons’ Cross Country running event at the Omischl Sports Complex.

The junior football season kicks off on Thursday with Algonquin at home to West Ferris at 3:30 pm.

The senior football season continues Friday with Algonquin hosting West Ferris.

It’s the first game for the Barons while the Trojans are 0-1.

Friday’s schedule also includes the start of the West Ferris girl’s basketball tournament.

Eight senior teams are competing along with six on the junior side.

They include local schools Algonquin, Chippewa, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall and West Ferris.

There are also teams coming from Ottawa, Arnprior, Timmins and elsewhere.

Games are being played at Chippewa and West Ferris.
