Council details long range financial plan on water

Over the next decade, the City of North Bay will spend $64.3 million on water operations.  That was one figure released as council approved the long range financial plan on water at the committee stage.

The expenditures include overseeing the treatment plant, 300 kilometers of water mains spread across the city and 1,400 hydrants.   Although not related, one item that came up was the lost water the City experiences due to things like flushing or leaks.

This is considered an un-billable item and engineering and works chair Tanya Vrebosch says in some cases something like flushing is cheaper. It’s because sometimes there is discolouration in water and although it’s still safe to drink, Vrebosch says people still won’t drink it.

It’s estimated that 35 to 40 percent of the City’s water is run-off related.
