It’s almost ‘Run’ day.
The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure takes place on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Officials say the event raises funds to support breast cancer research and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by this disease.
“It slowed me down. It stopped me in my tracks. It made me want to live,” says Paige Lockton, Messenger of Hope about her cancer diagnosis and journey.
She offers up some advice for those on their own journey right now.
“Every single day have an appointment with yourself and have someone to keep you accountable, to do something good for yourself,” Lockton says.
She’ll be delivering a message of hope on Sunday and will then lead the run/walk, explaining what she’ll be thinking about.
“Just how lucky I am to be in this community that has been so supportive of me in so many ways,” Lockton says. “It’s really an amazing community to be from. It’s beautiful. It’s on a lake. I’m just going to soak in everything that I’m grateful for.”
Sunday’s event takes place at the Kiwanis Bandshell and the waterfront with registration is at 9:30 am and the opening ceremonies at 10:15 am.
Both the 1 km and 5 km events start at 11 am.
