A couple local businesses are helping out the North Bay Food Bank and its clients.
Toyota Canada and its dealers, including locally have donated over $900,000 to food banks across Canada.
“North Bay Toyota is proud to make a contribution of $5,000 to the North Bay Food Bank, in support of their efforts to help those in need and ensure families have access to essential meals and what better timing than Thanksgiving,” reads a statement from the local dealership.
Officials say the donation was made as part of the community-minded ‘Toyota Cars For Good’ initiative.
Meantime, officials with Kennedy Insurance Brokers say they heard from the food bank that they’re experiencing a slowdown in donations, so they’re holding the ‘Make Every Bean Count’ food drive for the month of October.
“Together with our friends at our sister offices in Ontario we decided to pick out food banks for our community,” says Jake Lacourse, Group Health, Life, and Disability Advisor. “Essentially we do a food drive with our clients, customers and the general public to come in and bring food items to us or directly to the food bank and fill up their coffers.”
The goal is 200 pounds of food.
“We’re probably going to smash that goal, but I wanted to do something that was realistic,” Lacourse says. “That works out to be about ten pounds per person that works here at our firm.”
Donations can also be made directly on the food bank’s website.
