The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) says an estimated $15,500 was raised for cancer research through Terry Fox Run events held by its various schools in September.

“On behalf of our Board, we continue to express our sincere gratitude for the continued generosity of our NPSC Catholic School communities in raising a remarkable amount of funds for the Terry Fox Foundation, to support cancer research,” says Paula Mann, NPSC Director of Education. “Over the years, our NPSC Catholic schools have been truly inspired by the life of Terry Fox and share his vision – a world without cancer.”
Board officials say about two-thirds of the total, $10,785, was raised at St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School alone.
They add Vice Principal Rhonda Lindeman and one of the school’s custodians, Steven Fournier, were dunked in cold water by the school’s top fundraisers after the $7,000 fundraising goal was surpassed on Oct. 3.
Over the years, the school has raised $100,000 through Terry Fox Run/Walk events.
“We are really proud of our school community for surpassing our annual goal, once again,” says Lindeman. “I could not believe that we’ve surpassed $100,000 as a school. We couldn’t have done it without the help of so many students, staff, and parents these past several years. Together, we remember Terry.”
Board-wide, approximately $170,000 has been raised for the Terry Fox Foundation.
