City police say they’ll “maintain a limited presence” at a planned demonstration scheduled to take play at North Bay City Hall on Saturday, Oct. 21.
It’s in response to information circulating online about the “Worldwide Stop the War on Children Rally,” and the service adds members of the North Bay Police Service will be in the area to monitor the event in order to ensure public safety.
On social media, North Bay Pride has shared a counter-protest is also planned for Saturday.
“The North Bay Police Service respects the right to peacefully protest. Police will monitor the event in order to ensure public safety and address any issues related to traffic congestion,” reads a release. “All members of the public, including road users, residents, and businesses have the right to safely enjoy public spaces.”
The service adds it’s committed to maintaining open communication with organizers and participants of public demonstrations and officers will use discretion when dealing with any situation that may arise, adding there’s a zero-tolerance policy towards unlawful behaviour and any violations of the criminal code.
“While we have no reason to believe that the participants of this demonstration will be violent or disruptive, the North Bay Police Service always monitors major public events and gatherings in order to ensure public safety,” the statement reads.
