The community is being invited to ‘Conquer the Escarpment’ in memory of a former Laker.
Along with earning her Bachelor of Physical Health Education and Master of Science in Kinesiology from Nipissing University, officials say Shelby Dickey was an accomplished athlete and co-captain of the Lakers Nordic Ski Team.
She passed away in 2019 in a cycling collision.
The 4.5 km Conquer the Escarpment Shelby Dickey Memorial Fun Run/Walk takes place this Saturday.
“Shelby was and is an inspiration to her teammates, bringing a joyful spirit to even the most challenging circumstances,” shared Dr. Toivo Koivukoski, Associate Professor at Nipissing University and Head Coach of the Nipissing Lakers Nordic Ski Team. “Her legacy will remain in the scholarship in her name, and in this event, which encourages everyone to have fun in the outdoors while challenging ourselves.”
The event also includes an outdoor social and silent auction.
Proceeds are supporting the Lakers Nordic Ski Team.
