“This is a great victory for our kids”. That’s the statement from Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Pat Madahbee, following the Canada Human Rights Tribunal Child Welfare decision.
The tribunal ruled that the federal government has discriminated against First Nations children yesterday. It found that social services for children on First Nation reserves receive 34 per cent less funding than what is provided elsewhere in Canada.
Madahbee added that the federal government had avoided the truth for many years.
