Country 90.5 FM’s Kev’s Kids wins OAB Community Service Award

CFCH Country 90.5 FM’s Kevin Oschefski has a new award to put up on his mantle.

His Kev’s Kids Radio Marathon won the Ontario Association of Broadcasters Community Service Award in the small market category.
The event sees Oschefski stay on the air for over 29 hours, raising money for Rotary4Kids.
Oschefski says there’s no real trick to staying awake, year after year.
“I’ve always said if my child was in need, I would hope somebody in the community gives up a day and a half to them. That’s all I’m doing,” he adds. “When you see the legitimate difference the event makes to these kids and their families, whether it be through the purchase of a wheelchair or a ramp. It makes it all worth it.”
This year, the event raised over $96,400.
“Every day our team pulls together to unite, inform, entertain and support the communities we live in,” said Peter Hobbs, Regional Cluster Manager. “And this award reflects the hard work of the amazing Vista Radio team.”
For nearly two decades the Rotary Club of North Bay has raised and spent over a million dollars in assisting area children with special needs overcome circumstances, whether it be assisting with various treatments, purchasing mobility devices, supporting the Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth summer and other recreation programs and more.
The non-profit’s website says the bulk of that fundraising takes place in March, thanks to “Kev’s Kids”.
