November police initiative results in hundreds of charges

On top of arresting 131 people wanted on outstanding warrants, Operation ‘Fall Sweep’ has netted area police over $158,000 in suspected drugs.

City and provincial police teamed up for the initiative in November, saying the warrants involved over 320 charges.

They included Failing to Attend Court, Breaching Release Orders, Thefts, Assaults, Drugs and Weapons.

An additional 61 charges were also laid.

Suspected Fentanyl, crystal meth, cocaine and meth were seized along with a 9mm Glock 19 handgun with a round in chamber and full magazine, brass knuckles, a butterfly flick knife and a vehicle.

“This was a collaborative effort between our two agencies where information was shared resulting in the arrest of individuals who were evading arrest,” says Jeff Warner, North Bay Police Service Inspector of Operations. “Those individuals were located, arrested and brought before the courts to answer to the charges. The hard work of our policing professionals resulted in a successful initiative and the results speak for themselves.”

Of the 131 individuals that were arrested, 57 were held for a bail hearing, 55 were released on an undertaking and 19 were released on an appearance notice.
