Residential rezoning repealed for the time being

It turns out the timing was off when it came to giving the public a chance to offer input on a Larocque Road residential development.

Council has repealed a previously approved rezoning involving 16 residential lots.

It all has to do with city signage that was posted on the property.

“I haven’t seen this before. I’ll be honest with you,” says councillor Mark King. “The committee meeting ended up starting at 5:15 pm and the placard/message on the property was 6:30 pm. People showed up to the 6:30 pm meeting and were unable to speak.”

The bylaw was repealed on Wednesday night and the proposal will be back before a council committee.

“I encourage those in the Larocque Road area to please come to committee and voice their concerns,” says King.

A staff report from the original meeting says the city received an email expressing concerns about traffic in the area.

Another email included a series of questions, which staff answered, but the report says the resident did not submit formal comments through the application process.
