Remembering Ken Miller

The policing and sporting communities are mourning the loss of North Bay’s Ken Miller.

He passed away on Jan. 1 at the age of 75.

Miller’s career with the Ontario Provincial Police spanned 31 years and included a number of leadership roles, including Chief Superintendent, Regional Commander for the Northeast Region.

He was also the Ontario Hockey League’s Director of Security.

The OHL says Miller made significant contributions to the league, serving in various roles over 40 years, starting as a referee in the early 1980s.

“Ken made tremendous contributions to the Ontario Hockey League in a number of different capacities spread out over the course of four decades,” says OHL Commissioner David Branch. “He was a consummate professional who did a lot of very important things behind the scenes, whether that was in his role as the League’s Director of Security, or through mentoring young officials in his position as an Officiating Manager. The League is thankful to Ken for the significant impact he made, and extends condolences to his wife Sally and family.”

Miller was inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

Visitation is taking place at Memorial Gardens – North Bay Sports Hall of Fame from 10 am to noon on Friday, January 12, followed by a memorial service.
