NBMCA says zero snow depth not a surprise considering the weather

For the first time in 17 years, there has been no measurable snow in the North Bay area at this time of the year.

That is from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA).

Officials say it’s no surprise considering the above normal temperatures and rain over the last two weeks.

“Since our records began in 1988, the only other years with no snow were in 1998 and 2007”, says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist.

Average snow depth for this time of year is 15.1 cm in North Bay, 7.7 cm in Corbeil and 9.6 cm in Chisholm.

NBMCA measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
