Conservatives in Nipissing-Timiskaming will have a decision to make when it comes to who their candidate will be in the next federal election.
Steven Trahan, who was the party’s candidate in the last vote, threw his hat back into the ring on Friday.
He’s a police officer in North Bay and municipal councillor in East Ferris.
Trahan joins Cassidy Villeneuve in seeking the party’s nomination.
Villeneuve, who was raised in North Bay, has worked for several Conservative MPs on Parliament Hill.
That includes Chief of Staff for the Conservative Shadow Minister of Public Safety.
Liberal MP Anthony Rota, who won the 2021 election with nearly 39% of the vote, previously announced he’s not running again after this term.
Trahan was the runner-up in that election, receiving nearly 32% support.
The next federal election is scheduled for October 2025.
However, a recent survey from Nanos Research reveals that nearly one in two Canadians want to head to the polls before then.
Only 33 per cent of respondents said they would prefer to wait.
