City transit ridership back to 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels

A new fixed transit route is coming to North Bay.

The city says it’s because of increased ridership in the evening hours to certain parts of North Bay.

“North Bay Transit experienced a significant drop in ridership during the Covid-19 pandemic, but as of the end of 2023, ridership has reached approximately 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels,” says Gord Young, communications officer with the city.

The new 8 Eastview/Algonquin route starts Monday, Jan. 8 and will complement the Dynamic Dispatch system, operating Monday to Friday from 6:50 p.m. to 10:50 pm.

The bus will travel along Algonquin Avenue, Cassells Street, Trout Lake Road, Fisher Street and Seymour Street, providing fixed services to Canadore College’s Commerce Court Campus and Northgate Shopping Centre.
