City police Deputy Chief Michael Daze says from now through Sunday, Feb. 4 participating Tim Horton’s restaurants are selling Special Olympics Donuts.

“We really do encourage everybody to come out and buy the donuts and support all of these wonderful athletes,” he says. “100% of the proceeds go right back into Special Olympics and that supports local athletes and athletes across the province. It’s a great initiative.”

The North Bay Police Service is partnering with Special Olympics Canada for the “Choose to Include” campaign.

City police officers will be assisting at several local Tim Horton’s outlets this weekend.

But Daze says their involvement is about more than just this weekend, too.

“It’s about organizing the polar plunge, being out at those hockey games [with the North Bay North Stars], it’s about being in the community. Our officers find it rewarding to give back,” he says. “They’re great partnerships and it’s really good for the health and well-being of the community at large.”

The Polar Plunge takes place on March 9, with a fundraising goal of $25,000.
