The Near North District School Board has given Chippewa Secondary School approval to rebrand.
A school-based committee will be formed to oversee the rebranding, which the board says does not include renaming the school.
In the process, the school will collaboratively choose a new mascot for use by teams and clubs.
Indigenous Trustee Ashley St. Pierre said this will be an opportunity to “learn from past mistakes and hurts” and is a chance to build relationships with community and First Nations partners.
