Motion to reconsider arena decision defeated

City staff are once again being directed to issue a Request For Proposal (RFP) for the new community and recreation centre project, with a total budget of $60 million.

A motion to reconsider the decision, which was originally made on Tuesday night, was defeated in a special council meeting Thursday evening.

Councillor Jamie Lowery put forward the motion of reconsideration.

A section of the city’s procedural bylaw needed to be suspended to make the decision Thursday, instead of waiting for the next regular council meeting.

The approved motion to go to RFP also calls for the new centre to be substantially completed in 2025 and to meet the Zero Carbon Building Design requirements to receive federal funding.
