Snowmobile trails closed after ‘most challenging’ season

‘Shortest and most challenging’.

Those words are being used to describe the snowmobile season locally.

“Trails in the North Bay area are closed,” says Shawn Flindall with the North Bay Snowmobile Club. “If the warm temperatures didn’t kill them, the rainstorm sure did.”

He adds a few trails remain open, but they won’t last long.

“After all the prep work and anticipation local trails were only open for 19 days,” Flindall says. “[It was] the shortest and most challenging season on record, for sure.”

He also says despite the mercury taking a deep dive, he doesn’t think trails will open back up.

“What a huge, helmet-head bummer,” Flindall says.

In West Nipissing, the snowmobile club there calls it “the worst winter on record” and has pulled the pin on this year’s season.

Officials are asking riders to respect landowners and to stay off the trails, adding the hope the snow will stick around until April next year.
