UPDATE: Chippewa Secondary School reopens after gas leak resolved

UPDATE: 6 am Friday, March 1

The gas leak has been resolved and Chippewa Secondary School is back open Friday, March 1.

That from officials with the school after it was closed on Thursday.

City fire crews responded at 6 am with Deputy Chief Greg Saunders saying a “significant” leak was discovered after crews arrived.

The school is thanking city fire crews and Enbridge Gas for their quick response and action.

 

UPDATE: 9:00 a.m. (Thursday)
City fire crews responded to a reported gas leak at 6:00 a.m. this morning at Chippewa Secondary School.

That’s according to Deputy Chief Greg Saunders, who says a “significant” leak was discovered after they arrived, and the building was evacuated and closed.

Saunders says Enbridge Gas personnel were also on scene, adding  “the gas to the school has been shut off and secured.”

Chippewa Secondary School is closed Thursday, Feb. 29.

The school says it’s because of a gas leak.

All staff and students are being told to remain at home.

In a post on social media, officials say further information will follow.
