North Bay’s Ralph Diegel has passed away.
Also known as “Mr. Downtown”, he was the owner of Canada’s longest running shoe store, Deegan’s Shoe Store, on Main St, West.
A World War II veteran, he served as Commanding Officer for the 104th Brilliant Sea Cadets for many years after the war. He also assisted the Salvation Army and the figure skating club for over 50 years, and The Rotary Club for over 60.
His trumpet could also be heard at many Remembrance Day services across the area.
Diegel was 97.
