Daytime warming centre to close March 31

North Bay’s warming centre is closing at the end of March.

The centre, located at 579 Fraser St., opened up on Nov. 1 of 2023 and from 8am to 8pm, it provided bathrooms, showers, laundry, food and shelter during the cold winter months.
As of this March 22, 282 people have attended since it opened.

Officials add in addition to the warming services, valuable referrals and connections to other services were also provided.

District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board Chair Mark King is thanking The Gathering Place and staff for stepping in and operating the centre this year, helping many get out of the cold, as well as the “many supportive community agencies including, among others, Crisis Centre North Bay, True Self, Victim’s Services, North Bay Police, Amelia Rising, AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area HIV – Hep C – Harm Reduction Services (ACNBA), and North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre.”

Planning is now underway for another warming centre next winter. The location has yet to be determined.
