North Bay receives $785,000 in provincial gas tax money

$785,000 in provincial money is going toward transit investments in North Bay.

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced the city’s allotment from the 2023-24 Gas Tax program.

He says the funding can be used to expand service hours, increase routes, purchase new vehicles, and improve accessibility to increase transit ridership.

“This investment is fantastic news for transit riders in North Bay,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Under the leadership of Premier Ford, we will continue to invest in local transit to drive economic growth, make travel more convenient and connect people to the things that matter most to them.”

Mayor Peter Chirico is thanking the province for the continued investment.

“The provincial gas tax program provides vital funding that supports our transit system and helps to ensure that our residents have dependable and accessible transportation options,” he says.

Last year, the city received about $914,000.

However, the 2022-23 Gas Tax Program included an extra $80 million in funding province-wide because of reduced gas sales with the ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

For every litre of provincial gas tax revenue collected in the previous fiscal year, two cents are allocated to the Gas Tax program.
