City watching for further details on new sport infrastructure fund

The city is interested in learning more after the province announced the creation of a Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.

The Ontario government is investing up to $200 million over three years to support new and revitalized local sport and recreation facilities.

Funding will be delivered through two streams:

  • Repairing and upgrading existing sport and recreation facilities into more accessible, state-of-the-art facilities that better suit the community’s needs.
  • Building new and transformative sport and recreation facilities, including replacing existing facilities that have reached the end of their lifespan and are beyond repair.

“The city is committed to exploring every available avenue for funding for the new Community and Recreation Centre project and looks forward to further details regarding the eligibility criteria and application guidelines for this newly announced Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund,” says Gord Young, Communications Officer with the City of North Bay.

A Request for Proposal for the local project, with a total budget of $60 million, closed at the end of March.

The province says applications to the new fund will be open to municipalities, Indigenous communities, and non-profit organizations.

Officials say more information about eligibility and application guidelines will be provided this summer.
