Day of Mourning being marked on Sunday

Canada’s unions are calling on decision-makers to take immediate and concrete action to make work safe.

They’re marking the National Day of Mourning on Sunday with that message.

Officials say an alarming number of workers are still getting injured, falling ill, or dying from unsafe work.

“Workers need proper protection and adequate information to keep them safe,” states a release from the North Bay and District Labour Council. “Decision-makers have a responsibility to strongly enforce the Westray law to ensure that employers aren’t cutting corners at the expense of workers’ health and safety.”

The local Day of Mourning ceremony is being held at 6 pm on Sunday outside North Bay City Hall.
