We’re just hours away from Kev’s Kids fundraiser for Rotary4Kids.
Country 90.5 FM morning show host Kevin Oschefski 29-hour radio marathon starts Thursday morning.
Every dollar raised during the broadcast stays in the community to help local children with special needs.
Oschefski says reminding himself he’s done it before is one way he prepares for the marathon.
“When I start to second-guess and think can I really be on the radio for 29 straight hours, I just remind myself I’ve done it a few years now so yes, I can,” he says. “The second thing is, will the community donate? Yes, they will because they have in the past.”
Oschefski says he continues to do the fundraiser because the money raised goes towards the purchase of assistive devices, programming, uninsured medical costs and more.
“It really does make a legitimate difference in these kids and these families’ lives,” he says.
Donations are already being accepted online and can be made by phone or at the radio station (122 Main Street East) during the broadcast.
This year’s ambassadors are the junior developmental disabilities class at Sunset Park Public School.
“When we were approached by Rotary4Kids, I was so excited as this felt like a natural next step,” says Jennifer Stewart, teacher at Sunset Park. “We hope that our students will enjoy these outings and gain the confidence and skills necessary in navigating new settings and relationships. We hope that these interactions develop their personal sense of identity as well as their identify as a class and team.”
Along with a flag-raising at city hall at 10 am on Thursday and venturing out into the community to accept donations, the broadcast wraps up at the North Bay YMCA, from 7 am to 10 am on Friday, May 31.
