Over $80,000 raised by Kev’s Kids radio marathon for Rotary4Kids

By the time Kev’s Kids radio marathon for Rotary4Kids wrapped up Friday morning tens of thousands of dollars had been raised.

“Over $80,000 for children in our community with special needs,” says Kevin Oschefski, Country 90.5 FM morning show host. “It’s all because of you, North Bay and surrounding area. Thank you. You have made a huge impact on these families.”

Funds raised from Oschefski’s 29-hour broadcast go towards the purchase of assistive devices, programming, uninsured medical costs and more.

“Everyone gets a little choked up when they think about this feeling and supporting the families,” says Jeff Hobbs, Chair of the Rotary4Kids Committee. “When we hear the stories and we see the smiles on the kid’s faces, it gets you in the feels.”

This year’s ambassadors were the junior developmental disabilities class at Sunset Park Public School.

“They’re just looking for acceptance, for new friends, a new face to say hi to,” says Jennifer Stewart, teacher at Sunset Park. “They just love it.”

Thursday, May 30, was proclaimed Redpath Rotary4Kids Day, with the raising of the Rotary International flag at city hall.

The radio marathon also ventured out into the community to accept donations and wrapped up Friday morning at the North Bay YMCA.
