Holy Cross school closed with police investigating parking lot shooting

City police report a 21-year-old North Bay man is in custody after an overnight shooting in a local school parking lot.

The North Bay Police Service responded to a call about the sound of gunshots in the parking lot of a school on Lake Heights Road with officers finding a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

Police say another man, who fled on foot, was located a short distance away and was arrested.

He’s facing several charges while police say the victim is in hospital in serious condition.

Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School is closed Wednesday (June 5) with officials saying there will be a heavy police presence in the area of the school.

Police say it’s suspected the accused and the victim are known to each other and have no association to the school.

They also say there is no risk to public safety.

The investigation continues with police asking anyone with any information in relation to this incident, to call 705-497-5555 and press 5 to speak with an officer.
