North Bay Fire officials are hosting representatives from various fire departments, police services and the insurance industry from across Ontario this week.
They’re taking part in an advanced fire Investigation course.
City fire officials teamed up with the International Association of Arson Investigators Ontario, and the provincial Insurance Adjusters Association to host the course.
It includes in-class theory and practical scene investigations, taking place at Canadore College.
Fire Chief Jason Whiteley says topics covered include fire origin determination and pattern analysis, documenting scenes, and evidence handling.
There are also presentations on fires with electricity, appliances, boats, vehicles and explosions.
On the practical side, four burn cells were created to produce different fire scene scenarios, along with a car fire scenario.
Whiteley says students then have the opportunity to challenge the National Association of Fire investigators exam to apply to become certified as Fire and Explosion Investigators.
