Communities in Bloom Judges coming soon

Clean Green Beautiful (CGB) North Bay is asking everyone to pitch in and help get ready for the national Communities in Bloom competition.

The judges will be evaluating North Bay on July 29.

“What we’re asking is for the community to rally together as they have been the past few years,” says Sarah McGowan, CGB North Bay committee member. “Just tidy up spaces, plant flowers, look after one another and just continue what they’ve been doing for so long.”

Specifically, CGB says you can beautify your space, take part in clean-up events, promote environmental actions like recycling and water conservation, take care of trees on your property and consider adding new plants or features to your landscape.

The city will be evaluated in six categories, including:

  • Community Appearance
  • Environmental Action
  • Heritage Conservation
  • Tree Management
  • Plant and floral displays
  • Landscape

“Unlike the provincial (competition) we only have one day with them,” McGowan says. “It’s going to be quite quick unfortunately but we’re going to show as much as we possibly can of North Bay.  We’re presenting them with a community profile as well to show what other great things are happening within the city.”

She says they also have a request for local businesses later this month.

“We’re just asking for any businesses or organizations that have sandwich boards, or digital advertising signs or window space to put ‘Welcome CiB judges’ on their location between July 28-30,” McGowan says.

Officials are also encouraging people to display orange flowers, this year’s chosen colour.
