A new multi-use pathway is coming to Corbeil.

The MacPherson Drive Link will connect the village with the Voyageur Cycle route, a 645-kilometre route that connects 29 communities from Sudbury to Ottawa.

The project was announced by MP Anthony Rota and East Ferris Mayor Pauline Rochefort on Tuesday.

The feds are investing just over $1 million through Canada’s Active Transportation Fund.

Rota says it will help the community get active.

“When you don’t have a paved shoulder or paved route to go on, it’s dangerous,” he says. “This is about safety and allowing people to go out enjoy the outdoors and transportation, other than cars, and do it safely.”

East Ferris is contributing over $180,000 to the trail.

When complete, Rochefort says the project will expand the shoulders for about 7 km along MacPherson Drive, Centennial Crescent and Highway 94 to the Corbeil recreational hub.

“It’s a dual surface. Partially with asphalt and the other portion with hard packed gravel.  It’s to ensure that people can walk and cycle safely,” she says. “Our vision is to have a safe path from the south to the north.”

Officials say the link will include trail markers, benches, bike racks, and bicycle repair stations.

Over $520,000 has been provided by the province for the project.

It’s expected to be completed in October.
