There is significant damage to a home on the 1000 block of Main Street West after a supper-hour fire on Monday.
City fire crews were dispatched just before 5:30 pm.
“We had a heavily involved fire that appears to have started on the front porch and it had already burnt up through and got into the attic space,” says Fire Chief Jason Whiteley, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services. “The homeowners were home and were able to self-evacuate. People warned them about the fire on the front porch.”
He says the front of the building is a 1956 era home while the back is an addition made in 2011, with crews battling to stop the fire from getting into that area.
“[There is] damage to the front,” he says. “I have no cause yet and there are no injuries.”
With crews on the scene, Main West is blocked off in the area in front of the Beer Store and Boart Longyear, from about Cormack to Nipissing streets.
