Heat warning issued for the North Bay area

Environment Canada says a hot and humid airmass is expected to arrive Wednesday and continue through Friday.

A heat warning has been issued for the North Bay area.

The weather agency says daytime temperatures of 29 to 31 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values between 36 and 38.

Officials add overnight minimum temperatures will be 17 to 19 degrees Celsius and a cooler airmass may arrive by Friday night.

Safety tips include drinking plenty of water on a regular basis and never leaving people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

With Environment Canada’s heat warning in place for the North Bay area, the city has set up a few cooling centres.

Residents in need of an indoor place to stay cool through Friday can go to Pete Palangio Arena and Memorial Gardens from 7 am until 9 pm and the Transit Terminal on Oak Street from 8:30 am to 7 pm.
