Canadore College’s new sports dome is officially open.
The 85,000 square foot sportsplex is located at the Commerce Court Campus and supports year-round activities including soccer, golf, baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, dry land training, and sport conditioning.
“The College is proud to have spearheaded this multi-million-dollar investment, which not only meets our growing academic, sport, and wellness needs but also enhances the broader sports ecosystem of the region,” says George Burton, President and CEO. Burton.
He says they’re looking at expanding their varsity and recreational club programs.

“The natural for us will be soccer to begin with,” Burton says. “We have a baseball team now and we’re looking at the OCAA eventually for that. We have a few other teams in the early stages so we will. With campus recreation, it allows us to double our capacity, which is wonderful for our students.”
Designed in collaboration with community user groups, the college says the facility also serves as a community recreation hub, meeting the long-standing demand for covered turf and hard-court surfaces in the area.
“It’s a learning environment and so our academic programming will be in here, our varsity club programming will be in here but so will the community,” says Graham Loyst, sports facility supervisor. “Any time that’s going to be available, the community is going to be able to rent space to use as they wish.”
A 6,200 square foot clubhouse is attached and provides change rooms, reception, and dedicated instructional/meeting space.
Officials say the complex will create additional opportunities for the College and the region and can double as the largest event space in the area to help attract sport and other tourism to the region.
