Three area First Nations receive funding for economic growth

$800,000 in provincial funding is helping support economic growth for three First Nations in Nipissing.

MPP Vic Fedeli announced the bulk of the money, $600,000 goes to Antoine First Nation to build a 5,000 square foot, multi-use Capacity Building Centre in Antoine Park, Mattawa.

Nipissing First Nation receives $100,000 for the Beaucage Park Development while Anishinabek Nation also receives $100,000 for the Cannabis Legalization Capacity Building.

“Our government is working with First Nation communities in Nipissing to create lasting economic prosperity for Indigenous people and communities, representing reconciliation in action,” says Fedeli.

Funding comes from the Indigenous Economic Development Fund and the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program.

Both are annual funds that support recipients across the province to develop infrastructure, create growth plans and provide employment services to help strengthen Indigenous communities and local economies.
