Mission accomplished!
Country 90.5 FM morning host Kevin Oschefski completed his 129 km walk for the cure from Sudbury to North Bay early Friday afternoon.
His four-day trek started at the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury and wrapped up at the Main Street West CIBC branch.
He was walking and running to honour his wife Josie and all those who are fighting breast cancer.
“The people that are battling, but the loved ones of those people as well,” he says. “I’ve had people reach out over the last few days that are fighting that same fight. I hope we’ve given them a little bit of hope and reminded them that they’re not alone.”
By the time Oschefski reached the CIBC over $43,700 had been raised.
He says it’s difficult to put into words what the community support means.

“I don’t know if I can say. It’s been amazing,” he says. “I knew today was going to be emotional for sure. When we hit the Main Street cutoff I felt it there. There was a woman there that was on her way to get chemo, and she wanted to be there to give me a hug and when I saw my family. Amazing. Just amazing.”
CIBC Run for the Cure co-director Melanie Gainforth says Kevin’s outstanding support of the run dates back to 2011.
“He’s dyed his hair. He has painted his nails, he wore pink pants for 30 days,” she says. “But this is a whole other level. It’s in his home. But it’s in his heart to give and it’s been so beautiful to watch the City of North Bay stand beside him with every penny they have.”
The CIBC Run for the Cure takes place on Sunday, Oct. 6.
On Oct. 17, the North Bay Battalion will wear pink warm-up sweaters, with all proceeds from the jersey auction supporting Kevin’s walk for the cure.
